Bold Text Generator – Copy and Paste 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐝 Text

A bold text generator turns normal letters into Unicode bold characters such as 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝗱 (sans-serif) or 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐝 (serif), so your text stays bold when you paste it into Instagram, TikTok or Discord, where there is no bold button. Type below and tap Copy; nothing leaves your browser.

How to use the bold text generator

  1. Type or paste your text into the box.
  2. Pick a style: sans-serif bold, serif bold, serif bold italic or sans bold italic.
  3. Tap Copy, then paste it into your bio, post or message.

Bold is one of several Unicode letter sets on TextGlyphs; our small text generator makes tiny letters the same way, and the two mix well in one bio line.

Sans-serif bold vs serif bold vs bold italic

Unicode has four bold alphabets, all in the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block added in Unicode 3.1: sans-serif bold from 𝗔 U+1D5D4, serif bold from 𝐀 U+1D400, serif bold italic from 𝑨 U+1D468 and sans-serif bold italic from 𝘼 U+1D63C. They are separate characters, so 𝗔 and 𝐀 are as different to a computer as A and B.

Where bold text shows up and where it breaks

Place Unicode bold Why
Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and Discord posts, bios and captions Accepted Free-text fields take any Unicode text
Instagram and TikTok @username Rejected Only letters, numbers, full stops and underscores
Search boxes, hashtags and some forms Often turned back into plain letters, or not matched Many systems normalise these characters
Older devices and basic fonts May show empty boxes The font needs the maths letters from Unicode 3.1

Why Unicode bold is not real bold

Real bold is formatting applied to ordinary letters; Unicode bold replaces each letter with a different character that only looks bold. That has three side effects worth knowing before you use it widely. A hashtag written in bold is a different word from the plain hashtag, so it may not be found under the same tag. Copying bold text into a document keeps the strange characters instead of real bold. And for web pages, headings should use real HTML formatting rather than bold characters.

Unicode bold text is not real bold: screen readers read it as mathematical letters
Screen readers announce Unicode bold letters by their mathematical names.

Bold text and screen readers

Screen readers announce each Unicode bold letter by name, so 𝗛𝗶 may come out as “mathematical sans-serif bold capital H, mathematical sans-serif bold small i”. Use bold for a few words, never for a whole post, so your text stays readable for everyone.

Bold text generator FAQ

How do I make bold text on Instagram or WhatsApp?+

Instagram has no bold button, so type your text in the bold text generator above, tap Copy on the bold style and paste it. On WhatsApp you can also wrap a word in *asterisks* to bold it inside WhatsApp only; Unicode bold works everywhere.

Is Unicode bold text real bold?+

No. Real bold is formatting applied to normal letters. Unicode bold is a set of different characters from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block that look bold, which is why it survives copy and paste but is read differently by screen readers and search.

What is the difference between sans-serif bold and serif bold?+

Sans-serif bold (𝗔, U+1D5D4) has plain strokes and suits bios; serif bold (𝐀, U+1D400) has small feet on the letters and looks more formal. Both are complete alphabets with digits.

Why did my bold text turn back into normal letters?+

Some fields convert special letters back to plain a–z, a process called normalisation, to keep searches and usernames simple. When that happens the field has removed the bold characters, not the generator.
