Cursed Text Generator ✧ Copy & Paste Cursed Text (2026)

Cursed text generator with zalgo levels and 10 cursed styles to copy and paste

A cursed text generator turns normal letters into corrupted, glitched Unicode — zalgo stacks, strikethrough overlays, gothic blackletter and upside-down text — that you copy and paste straight into a Discord message, an Instagram bio or a TikTok display name. Type below, pick a cursed level, tap Copy. Everything runs in your browser.

Last reviewed: July 2026 — expansion ratios re-measured on this page’s own generator.

Tip: the character counter under the zalgo box is the number that decides whether a name field accepts your text — see the limits table below before you commit a nickname.

How to use the cursed text generator

Making cursed text takes three steps and no sign-up:

  1. Type or paste your text into the box at the top of the page.
  2. Drag the cursed level slider from 1 to 5 for zalgo, or scroll the style rows for a fixed look such as strikethrough or blackletter.
  3. Tap Copy on the version you want and paste it wherever plain text is accepted.

The three ABOVE / THROUGH / BELOW buttons control where the corruption sits. Turning off ABOVE and BELOW keeps the marks on the line, which stays legible in a chat message; leaving all three on gives the classic overflowing zalgo wall.

What is cursed text?

Cursed text is normal text with extra Unicode combining marks stacked onto each letter, or with letters swapped for look-alike characters from other Unicode blocks. It is not a font and not an image — it is a real character string, which is exactly why it survives a copy-and-paste into a field that strips bold, italics and colour. That is what people are usually after when they look for a cursed name for Discord, Roblox or Minecraft — though, as the support table further down shows, the two games filter most of it out while Discord does not.

The stacking effect comes from the Combining Diacritical Marks block, U+0300–U+036F, a set of 112 marks that attach to whatever character precedes them. A renderer is expected to draw every one of them, so piling twelve marks onto a single letter makes the glyph bleed above and below its own line. The look is often called zalgo text, after a 2004 internet horror meme that popularised the technique.

Zalgo cursed text intensity levels 1 to 5 and how far each level expands your text
Each cursed level adds more combining marks per letter — and multiplies the character count that name fields actually measure.

What each cursed level costs you

Level 1 roughly triples your character count; level 5 multiplies it by about 14. That matters because every platform counts the marks, not the letters you see. We measured this generator across six sample strings in July 2026 — here is what each setting produced:

Cursed level Marks per letter Average expansion Plain letters that still fit a 32-character Discord nickname
1 — light up to 2 2.9× ~10
2 — visible up to 5 5.1× ~6
3 — classic zalgo up to 9 6.8× ~4
4 — heavy up to 16 11.5× ~2
5 — wall up to 27 14.4× ~2

Turning zones off is the cheapest way to buy characters back. At level 3, marks above only came out at 3.4× and below only at 3.8×, against 6.8× with all three zones active — so a one-sided corruption gives you roughly double the usable name length at the same visual intensity.

The ten cursed text styles on this page

Beyond zalgo, the generator ships nine fixed transformations. Four of them overlay a combining mark on every letter, five swap letters for characters from another Unicode block:

Style “cursed” becomes How it works
Cursed strikethrough c̶u̶r̶s̶e̶d̶ combining long stroke overlay
Cursed slashed c̸u̸r̸s̸e̸d̸ combining long solidus overlay
Cursed underline c̲u̲r̲s̲e̲d̲ combining low line
Void rings c⃝u⃝r⃝s⃝e⃝d⃝ combining enclosing circle
Gothic fraktur 𝖈𝖚𝖗𝖘𝖊𝖉 Mathematical Bold Fraktur block
Hollow outline 𝕔𝕦𝕣𝕤𝕖𝕕 Mathematical Double-Struck block
Hacked mixed-script ςยгรєด Thai, Greek and Cyrillic look-alikes
Negative circles 🅒🅤🅡🅢🅔🅓 Enclosed Alphanumeric Supplement
Upside down pǝsɹnɔ rotated look-alikes, order reversed
Reversed desruc character order flipped only

The distinction is practical, not academic. Overlay styles keep your original letters underneath, so search and screen readers still find the word; substitution styles replace the letters entirely, so a search for “cursed” will not match 𝖈𝖚𝖗𝖘𝖊𝖉. If you want a name that people can still find you by, choose an overlay style.

Where cursed text pastes — and where it does not

Cursed text works anywhere a field accepts arbitrary Unicode and has room for the extra characters. It fails in two specific places: strict username fields, and chat systems that run a character-set filter.

Where cursed text works — Discord messages, Instagram bio and TikTok display name versus TikTok username and Roblox
Display names and bios accept cursed text; strict @username fields and filtered game chats do not.
Where you paste it Field limit Realistic cursed level
Discord message 2,000 characters any level — there is room to spare
Discord server nickname 32 characters 1–2, or level 3 on a very short name
Instagram bio 150 characters 1–3 for a line or two
TikTok bio 80 characters 1–2
TikTok display name 30 characters 1, on a short name
TikTok @username letters, numbers, dots and underscores only not supported at all
Roblox and Minecraft chat filtered character set usually stripped or rejected

The username rule catches people out constantly. On TikTok the @username accepts only letters, numbers, dots and underscores, so no cursed style will save — but the display name above it does accept Unicode. Games such as Roblox and Minecraft go further and run every string through a text filter, which commonly drops combining marks or rejects the name outright. Test in the edit screen before you commit to anything.

Cursed text in Discord, Roblox and Minecraft

Of the three, only Discord reliably keeps cursed text. It applies no character-set filter to messages or nicknames, so the only thing that stops you is the 32-character nickname budget — which is why a level 1 or 2 corruption is the practical ceiling for a nickname, while a message can take anything.

Roblox is the strictest of the three. Every display name, username and chat message passes through its text filter, which is built around a restricted character set; combining marks and most non-Latin look-alikes are dropped or the string is rejected before it posts. Substitution styles sometimes survive where zalgo never does, but nothing here is dependable — assume it will be filtered and treat anything that gets through as a bonus.

Minecraft splits by where you type. Java Edition chat and sign text accept a wide Unicode range and will render cursed strings in-game, though the default font draws many characters as blanks. Bedrock Edition and the Microsoft account gamertag behind it are far more restrictive, and the gamertag will not take cursed characters at all. As with the games above, the copy is correct either way — what varies is whether the client will draw it.

One honest caveat worth knowing: the limits above are the documented field limits, and they are what decides acceptance. Individual apps change their filters without notice, so treat a name field as something to try, not something to assume.

Why a cursed name gets rejected when it looks short

Because the field counts combining marks as characters. A six-letter name at cursed level 3 is about 41 characters to the server — already past a 32-character Discord nickname limit, even though you only typed six letters. This is the single most common reason a cursed nickname will not save.

There are three ways out, in order of how much of the look you keep:

  • Drop a zone. Marks above only, or below only, roughly halves the count at the same level.
  • Drop a level. Level 1 at 2.9× fits about ten plain letters in a 32-character field.
  • Switch to a substitution style. Blackletter, hollow outline and upside-down text are one character per letter — a six-letter name stays six characters, so it always fits.

That last point is the useful trick: if a field is tight, a gothic or hollow style gives you a cursed look at zero character cost. For the opposite problem — a name that needs to be smaller rather than stranger — the small text generator converts letters to tiny superscript and small caps at the same one-to-one ratio.

Cursed text symbols to copy and paste

Cursed symbols are single glyphs and short combos you drop around a name rather than transformations of it. Tap any tile below to copy it, then wrap it around whatever the generator produced — a skull either side of a blackletter name is the most-used pattern on the site. The hieroglyph and cuneiform brackets in the groups below are what people usually mean by an “ancient” cursed look — they are real script characters, not decoration fonts, so they need a device font that covers those blocks.

Skulls, graves & death

Crosses, sigils & occult

Eyes & watchers

Bats, spiders, ghosts & demons

Moons & night sky

Blades, blood & chains

Gothic frames & brackets

These are ordinary Unicode characters, so they behave exactly like the generated text: they paste as plain text, and a device without the right font shows an empty box rather than the glyph. If a combo looks broken in a desktop editor but you saw it working on a phone, trust the phone — mobile system fonts cover far more of these blocks than desktop ones do.

How to remove cursed text

There is no undo button, because cursed text is not formatting — the marks are part of the string. To get a clean version, retype the word, or paste the cursed string into the box at the top of this page and read your original letters underneath the marks. Overlay styles keep the base letters intact, so deleting is the only step needed; substitution styles have replaced the letters, so you have to retype.

If you are cleaning up someone else’s cursed text in bulk, most editors can strip the whole combining range in one pass with a find-and-replace across U+0300–U+036F. Anything left after that is a substituted look-alike character, not a mark.

Cursed text generator FAQ

Is cursed text a font or a real character?+

It is real characters. Cursed text combines ordinary letters with Unicode combining marks, or swaps them for look-alike characters in other Unicode blocks. Nothing about it is a font or a style, which is why it survives a copy-and-paste into a bio or message that strips normal formatting.

Why was my cursed nickname rejected?+

Almost always the character count. Every combining mark counts as its own character, so a six-letter name at cursed level 3 measures about 41 characters — over a 32-character Discord nickname limit. Lower the level, switch off one of the zones, or use a substitution style such as blackletter, which costs exactly one character per letter.

Does cursed text work on Discord?+

Yes, in messages and server nicknames. A Discord message allows 2,000 characters, so any cursed level fits comfortably. A server nickname allows 32, which in practice means level 1 to 2, or level 3 on a very short name.

Can I use cursed text in a TikTok or Instagram username?+

In the display name, yes; in the @username, no. TikTok @usernames accept only letters, numbers, dots and underscores, so cursed characters are rejected outright — but the display name shown above it does accept them. Instagram behaves the same way, and its 150-character bio has room for a couple of cursed lines.

Why does cursed text show as empty boxes on my computer?+

An empty box means the device you are viewing on has no glyph for that character — a font gap on the viewer’s end, not a copy error. The string is still correct. Mobile system fonts cover these Unicode blocks much better than desktop ones, so text that looks broken in a desktop editor very often renders perfectly on a phone.

Is cursed text safe to use?+

It is safe in the sense that it is plain Unicode with nothing executable about it. Two practical cautions: heavy zalgo overflows into the lines around it, which some apps and readers handle badly, and screen readers will announce every combining mark, so a level 5 name is genuinely hard to use for anyone relying on one. Keep bios and names at level 1 to 2 and save the walls for one-off messages.

Cursed text is one instrument on the bench — TextGlyphs also carries sparkle and divider glyphs, hearts, arrows and a searchable symbol library, all one tap to copy. If a character on this page is not showing up where you pasted it, the rendering and copy-paste FAQ walks through why, and the editorial team page sets out how these render checks are run.
